C40 Mayors Summit Morning Preview – February 5

Good morning, all! We’ve got a packed agenda for the first full day of the C40 Mayors Summit in Johannesburg – keep an eye on our blog for updates throughout the day.

We will kick off the morning with a welcome address from Executive Mayor of Johannesburg Mpho Parks Tau, and then launch right into the findings of Climate Action in Megacities 2.0 – a report that provides groundbreaking new data on the expanding and accelerating trend of city action related to climate change.

Later in the morning, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Christiana Figueres will offer a keynote address and participate on a panel to discuss the role that cities can play in the international climate dialogue.

The afternoon will feature breakout sessions designed for active C40 networks to report out on the work they’ve done, and will close with a plenary session on climate proofing cities, featuring Mayors from Rotterdam, Addis Ababa, Philadelphia and Venice.

The day will then end with a ceremony featuring new C40 Chair, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes and C40 Board President, Michael R. Bloomberg, who was recently named a UN Special Envoy for Cities and Climate.
