C40 Summit Video Blog Series: Annise Parker, Mayor of Houston, talks about mayors working together to get things done
*Editor’s note: In partnership with the City of Johannesburg we conducted a series of video interviews with mayors, leading sustainability officials and partner thought leaders during the C40 Mayors Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa on February 4-6, 2014. Stay tuned for more video blogs like this one over the coming weeks.
At the C40 Mayors Summit, Mayor Annise Parker gave an interview in which she talked about Houston’s unique history as a major oil and gas city that – under Mayor Parker’s leadership – has become the top municipal purchaser of renewable energy in the United States.
She also discusses the important role the C40 plays in providing a forum for global mayors to share challenges and successes.
“What is important to me is to talk to my fellow Mayors. It’s one thing to read a report about a sustainability initiative or an energy efficiency initiative, it’s another to actually talk to a mayor and say: ‘tell me really what you had to do in order to get this past your city government or to get buy-in from the citizens.’”
