“When Seoul hosted the C40 Mayors Summit in 2009 we had little to no experience with how to improve energy efficiency in buildings,” Deputy Mayor of Seoul Kim Sang Bum said during his interview at the C40 Mayors Summit in Johannesburg.

These days, however, the City of Seoul is a leader in reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions, and according to Kim, sharing knowledge with other C40 cities gave the City the confidence to improve its energy efficiency.

“Around 2008 we replaced traffic signals with LED lights, but now we’ve replaced all the light bulbs in public facilities, parking lots, and subways, providing mass energy efficiency to the city of Seoul.”
