C40 Summit Video Blog Series: Mark Watts, C40 Executive Director

*Editor’s note: In partnership with the City of Johannesburg we conducted a series of video interviews with mayors, leading sustainability officials and partner thought leaders during the C40 Mayors Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa on February 4-6, 2014. Stay tuned for more video blogs like this one over the coming weeks.

In his interview at the Mayors Summit, C40 Executive Director Mark Watts discusses everything from the new Climate Action in Megacities 2.0 report to the growing importance of cities at the intergovernmental level, made clear by the presence of top UN officials at the Summit.

He also highlighted the significance of expanding C40’s presence in the global south, and the overall success of the city-to-city exchange model.

Check out Mark’s full interview below:

“The thing that everybody is talking about [here at the Summit] is the fact that we can now see the door opening at the intergovernmental stage for cities to have a voice. And what we really want to see out of this is that mayors and cities will be able to put pressure into those big climate talks in Paris in 2015 so that we do get an outcome that stops catastrophic climate change.”
