C40, World GBC and USGBC forge global partnership

An announcement today by the World Green Building Council (World GBC), the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) marks the start of a new expanded partnership that will focus on innovative green building solutions for cities.

C40 helps its participating cities reach climate goals in part by facilitating solution-sharing between cities. Now, C40 Cities will have access to a suite of resources from the global network of green building professionals – including project best practices, policy development and implementation expertise, and critical data-driven tools – to enhance their sustainability efforts.

The WorldGBC is a coalition of national Green Building Councils, with member organizations in over 80 countries, The USGBC promotes sustainability in building design and operation, and is known for having developed the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building rating systems.

Since city buildings are the source of more than a third of global greenhouse gas emissions, retrofitting old buildings with upgrades and designing new buildings that consume less energy has huge potential to aid cities in reaching their climate goals. It is also an area in which many C40 cities are already quite active.

The announcement was made today at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in San Francisco.
