Mayor Paes Outlines Vision for C40: "What happens in our cities drives the globe"

At the C40 Mayors Summit in Johannesburg, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes addressed his fellow mayors for the first time as Chair of C40.

In his speech, Mayor Paes touched on C40’s many successes including driving global action on climate change by addressing the problem on a local/city level and the potential of C40 members to reduce carbon emissions by one gigaton by the year 2030.

The chair also outlined his vision for the organization moving forward, including contributing to a strong and positive agreement for global action on climate change at the forthcoming inter-governmental talks in Paris in 2015, and the addition of an urban development goal to the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals.
