New issue of Cities Today magazine spotlights resource efficiency
Cities Today magazine has published its next issue, titled “Counting the costs: why smart cities are resource efficient,” in time for the Rio+20 conference in Brazil. The global publication for senior decision-makers in urban development both amplifies and supports the dialogue taking place in Rio on the important role of cities in driving sustainable development.
C40 Director Mike Marinello serves on the editorial advisory board of the magazine, along with representatives from other leading organizations including the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), ICLEI, UN-HABITAT, Federation of Latin American Cities, Municipalities and Associations (FLACMA), and United Cities and Local Governments Asia-Pacific (UCLG-ASPAC.)
The new issue of Cities Today features several pieces on C40, including an interview with C40 Executive Director Jay Carson about the development of a knowledge platform for cities; and a story on the launch of a pilot version of the Global Protocol for Community-scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions by C40, ICLEI and international partners.
The magazine explores the broader theme of resource efficiency in cities through in-depth stories on smart grids and smart meters, as well as an essay by Soraya Smaoun of the United Nations Environment Programme on the need for sustainable patterns of consumption and production in cities.
