In our continued efforts to highlight the expert voices and leading initiatives on climate change through the C40 blog, we invited Mike Shanahan to tell us about the Climate Change Media Partnership. This innovative project is building a new cadre of climate change journalists -- fostering awareness and understanding of the issues at stake through sound and locally relevant reporting.
The monsoon rains wreaking havoc across Thailand have brought the longer-term planning challenges of its capital city, Bangkok, into sharp relief. Severe flooding has affected millions of homes and businesses in the city. But even as the waters begin to recede, there remains a difficult set of choices for the city as it confronts its vulnerability to the impacts of climate change – and role that rapid development has played in exacerbating these risks.
Arup recently put together an interesting infographic showing the scope of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, so we’d like to share it here. Take a look at these numbers: 18 percent of global GDP, 10 percent of worldwide carbon emissions and 297 million people are represented by the megacities participating in our group.
