C40 Cities Awards 2015

December 3, 2015 Paris, France

Mayors continue to deliver important, innovative policies and programmes that reduce emissions and improve sustainability. Launched in 2013, the City Climate Leadership Awards were created to recognize those successes, catalyze ambition, and share lessons with cities around the world.

The 2015 newly named ‘C40 Cities Awards’ took place on December 3, 2015 in Paris, to coincide the activities around the 21st Conference of Parties (COP21), and specifically aimed to share highly replicable ‘best practices’ across cities and draw attention to outstanding performances that have achieved a high level of environmental success in a challenging context. The 2015 C40 Cities Awards were granted in 10 categories, four of which are open to C40 Cities and cities that have committed to the Compact of Mayors – Carbon Measurement & Planning, Adaptation Planning & Assessment, Building Energy Efficiency and Green Energy. The six remaining categories were open to all cities – Finance & Economic Development, Solid Waste, Adaptation Implementation, Smart Cities & Smart Community Engagement, Sustainable Communities and Transportation.

In 2015, C40 partnered with Sustainia to produce a new publication the ‘Cities100’ which seeks to identify, connect, and communicate the most ground-breaking solutions to the problems of climate change that afflict cities today. Entries that submitted entires for the C40 Cities Awards were automatically entered as a Cities100 nomination, providing cities with a chance for projects to be highlighted and recognised across two platforms.
