Recent trends reveal a stable increase in citywide emissions measurement. Fifty one out of the seventy three cities that reported to the 2012 CDP Cities Global Report disclosed citywide emissions inventories. Based on this data, at least one city from every region of the world reports an emissions inventory, with North America and Europe showing the highest percentages of cities. Therefore, C40 believes measurement and reporting of citywide emissions will continue to be a priority among city governments.
The Measurement & Reporting Network focuses on this opportunity to provide cities with the necessary tools, best practices, and support mechanisms to facilitate higher quality annual data gathering and reporting.
"The collection, collation and dissemination of C40 Cities data is the cornerstone of [C40] programmes."
