Press Release: Wuhan Joins C40, Highlighting Growing Participation Of Cities In China
(London, UK) – June 17, 2014 – The C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) today welcomed Wuhan to its international network of cities committed to taking climate change actions locally that are having an impact globally. Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province in the People's Republic of China, and is the most populous city in Central China.
Wuhan joins Shenzhen as the latest additions to the C40 network, which now counts five cities from China.
“As mayor of a fast growing megacity in a transition economy myself, I understand the challenges that promoting sustainable economic development represents,” said C40 Chair, Mayor Eduardo Paes of Rio de Janeiro. “For this reason also, I am confident that Wuhan’s engagement with the C40 global network, which has now grown to include 69 cities, many of which facing similar challenges, can provide robust support to your climate change agenda.”
