    Continuing its groundbreaking sustainability efforts, Texas’s largest city has launched a major city-wide electric vehicle program called “Houston Drives Electric.” Houston Mayor Annise Parker, the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) Cities Program, which is now a fully integrated partner with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40), power producer NRG Energy’s eVgo program and charging station manufacturer ECOtality are moving this car-dependent city toward a more sustainable transportation network.

Charging networks are a key component of this effort, and the city is looking to add 1,300 charging points throughout the city by 2013.     New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, Chair of the C40, announced yesterday the addition of 70 electric vehicles (EVs) to the City’s fleet, making it the largest municipal clean-air vehicle fleet in the US. To spur the take-up of EVs by New York residents, the City also launched the Drive Electric NYC website, to provide facts about EVs, including a map of charging stations located throughout the city.
