August Rewind: Q: Why Cities? A: Innovative solutions to global sustainable development.
We hope you all remember our "Why Cities?" infographic from back in June. If you don't, we are sharing it again. Sure, Grist called it "gorgeous" and Mashable saw the Infographic and said "cities are at the forefront of innovation" and we appreciate their kind words. But more importantly we are sharing it again because the world's cities do offer perhaps our greatest hope of addressing the impacts of global climate change by taking actions at the local level. And, well, OK we are also sharing it again because we do think it is a pretty cool infographic. This post originally ran June 16, 2012.
It’s been a busy few weeks here at C40. We’ve recently launched our new website – www.C40.org – and are busy preparing for next week’s event Rio + C40: Megacity Mayors Taking Action on Climate Change.
Through all of this, we continually remind ourselves: Why cities?
Cities are the global centers of communication, commerce and culture. What our cities do individually and in unison can set the agenda for a sustainable future. We believe cities have the power to change the world.
And we’re not the only ones inspired by the collective powers of cities, or C40’s role in telling the story of cities’ leadership.
Mashable writes: “When it comes to creating big solutions for a sustainable future, cities are at the forefront of innovation.”
Grist lauds C40’s new ‘Why Cities?’ infographic, saying it’s “gorgeous.”
And Atlantic Cities loves our focus on data, particularly the “host of case studies about fighting climate change and tips for reducing your carbon footprint.”
As always, we encourage you to explore www.C40.org and provide us feedback on what you like, what you don’t like, and what you’d like to see more of. For our part, we’ll continue to do our best to keep the great work of cities in the spotlight.
