C40 & Siemens Kick Off 2014 City Climate Leadership Awards

We are pleased to announce that the application process for the 2014 C40 & Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards is now open.

Last year’s inaugural C40 & Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards was a rousing success, recognizing ten global cities for their leadership in urban sustainability. An event held at the Crystal in London drew city leaders and experts from around the world, quickly earning the Awards a reputation for being one of the most prestigious of its kind. We have no doubt that the 2014 Awards will draw even more cities and innovative climate projects.

“The C40 & Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards are dedicated to the idea that cities are leading the way in addressing the risks posed by climate change,” said President of the C40 Board of Directors and 108th Mayor of New York City Michael R. Bloomberg. “The success of our inaugural event in September 2013 made it easy for us to not only continue our efforts but expand on them by creating an open application process. And through the Awards process, we are creating a valuable platform to catalog and share the most innovative on-the-ground city driven solutions so that they can be recognized and emulated by others.”

This year’s competition seeks to recognize unique and cutting-edge city projects, as well as well as “hidden champions” – those urban sustainability projects making a difference even in the face of financial constraints or otherwise difficult environments.

More than 140 of the world’s major cities – both C40 Cities and those in the Siemens and Economist Intelligence Unit’s “Green City Index” – are eligible to apply. But take note: the application deadline is March 31, 2014!
