Final Call for Applications to the 2014 C40 & Siemens City Climate Leadership Awards
UPDATE APRIL 1, 2014: The deadline for applications has been extended to April 7th.
C40 and Siemens’ search for global cities demonstrating excellence in urban sustainability is still running. Eligible cities have two more weeks until the Monday, March 31st deadline to apply online for the 2014 City Climate Leadership Awards.
Lord Mayor Robert Doyle of Melbourne, whose city took home the prize in the Energy Efficient Built Environment category last year, had this to say about the value of the awards:
“Cities around the world are leading the way when it comes to climate change and creating a more sustainable future. What makes those cities really successful is their ability to be agile, adaptive, innovative and co-operable. In my city we care a lot about those qualities. Winning the City Climate Leadership Awards with our buildings retrofitting program was a world-class recognition that we took with great pride.”
The Awards are granted in 10 categories, five of which are open only to C40 cities -- Urban Transportation, Solid Waste Management, Finance and Economic Development, Carbon Measurement and Planning and Sustainable Communities. The five remaining categories are open to C40 and cities that were a part of the Green City Index research project conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit and sponsored by Siemens -- Green Energy, Energy Efficient Built Environment, Adaptation & Resilience, Air Quality and Intelligent City Infrastructure.
The 2014 Awards ceremony will take place on September 22 in New York City – and we hope a great many cities will be there to join us. Apply now!
