Houston Mayor Annise Parker Selected to National Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience
Houston Mayor Annise Parker was recently featured in CNN's "The City" describing the work being done in her city to advance sustainability and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the heart of U.S. oil country.
Now the C40 mayor’s efforts have been recognize d at the national level as Parker has been selected for President Obama’s Task Force on Climate Preparedness and Resilience.
“I am honored to have been chosen for this prestigious position and eager to be able to represent Houston’s pragmatic and diverse points of view on this issue,” said Mayor Parker. “We are a city that is forward thinking when it comes to sustainability and the environment. We have a wealth of technological expertise in our existing energy sector. In fact, those companies are becoming the leaders in development of the new technologies that will support our nation’s future environmental policies.”
President Obama’s Task Force was established as part of his administration’s Climate Action Plan; it will provide recommendations for how the federal government can best complement and support state and local leaders in preparing for the impacts of climate change – like droughts, floods and other extreme weather.
