Hurricane season prompts focus on global climate adaptation challenges
With the beginnings of hurricane season in the U.S. climate adaptation infrastructure investment is once again the spotlight.
Severe weather is a threat faced by urban areas around the world, especially those in coastal areas. The C40 is working with its Cities to develop policies to protect populations and infrastructure from climate risks – and access the financing to implement them. Jakarta, Indonesia, a C40 Steering Committee City and member of the C40 sub-network Connecting Delta Cities, is particularly vulnerable to flooding. What the city is doing to mitigate their situation, and what they have learned, is being shared with the sub-network and all C40 Cities. Jakarta’s deputy governor spoke with the C40 News Team during the C40 Cities Mayors Summit in Sao Paulo about his focus on solutions to these unpredictable – and potentially devastating – natural events.
