London’s Landmark RE:FIT Program

London, the founding C40 City, continues to lead the way on implementing innovative climate mitigation solutions. The Mayor's RE:FIT climate change program is helping hundreds of public buildings to get an energy makeover and save energy costs, following a £2.7 million boost from the European Investment Bank and the Mayor. The funding will pay for a team to support the program, and could help organizations retrofit up to 600 buildings with energy efficiency measures.

Since its inception, RE:FIT has been supported by the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) Cities Program, which is now a fully integrated partner with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40).

Quoting the Mayor of London Boris Johnson on additional funding for the program:

“This is really fantastic news for taxpayers and also for our efforts to protect the environment against climate change. Londoners will now benefit from hundreds of public buildings, many at the heart of their communities, becoming more energy efficient. These eco-makeovers will help organizations conserve precious public funds at a time when every extra penny counts."

RE:FIT cuts the red tape and costs associated with public sector building works by providing  a pre-vetted list  of energy savings companies that undertake energy audits, identify energy savings measures and install them. Energy savings guaranteed upfront allow costs to be repaid using predicted fuel bill savings, making the overall project cost neutral.
