Morning Preview June 1
Good morning everyone! Yesterday we enjoyed a great kickoff to the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group Mayors Summit as mayors from around the world teamed up with Sao Paulo youth to plant trees in Ibirapuera Park. C40 Chair, New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and São Paulo Mayor Gilberto Kassab – host of the C40 Cities Mayors Summit – exchanged park benches as a token of friendship between their two cities.
Today, the C40 Cities Mayors Summit swings into high gear:
- C40 Chair, Mayor Bloomberg, World Bank President Robert Zoellick, and President Bill Clinton will announce a new World Bank/C40 partnership live from Sao Paulo that will significantly impact how global cities can access financing and resourcing to address the effects of climate change.You can watch the proceedings LIVE here at 8am EST.
- Then ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability, will join with the C40 in announcing a new global standard approach for accounting and reporting greenhouse gas emissions that will boost cities ability to access funding and implement mitigation actions.
- In the afternoon, explore breakout sessions featuring Mayors and experts from around the world sharing information and best practices for energy efficiency in existing buildings, low emission transportation programs, renewable energy and more.
