Istanbul Floating Solar Power Plant

The Floating Solar Power Plant Project aims to make use of the currently unused space on top of freshwater sources to produce renewable energy to meet the increasing need for electricity in the city, through installation of floating solar panels. The current capacity of the project is at 240 kWp, but moving forward will be scaled upwards to 10 MWp, saving up to 7,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide per annum.

As one of the first solar retrofitting projects by the City of Istanbul, the Hidayet Turkoglu Sports complex stands to benefit from having 650-unit rooftop solar energy panels installed. These will produce approximately 340,000 KWH of electricity meeting over 10% of the annual needs of the facility, saving over US$23,000 and 105 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
