The River of Life (ROL) is a project headed by the Government of Malaysia to transform the main rivers of Kuala Lumpur into vibrant and liveable waterfronts with high economic value. The ROL initiative involves 3 cDeomponents:
1. River Cleaning – to be carried out along a 110 km stretch of the Klang River Basin (8 rivers) with the objective to improve river water quality from class III – class IV to class IIB by 2020
- 3. River Beautification – to be carried out along a 10.7km stretch along the Sungai Klang and Sungai Gombak corridors
- 3. Land Development (Commercialization and Tourism) – to catalyse development along the river corridor and transform the land along the corridor for regeneration and economic investment
The main agencies responsible in implementing this project are the Department of Irrigation & Drainage (DID) Malaysia for river cleaning, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for river beautification and Ministry of Federal Territory (KWP) for land development/commercialisation and tourism.
