About the events

As world leaders gather for the G20 Summit and COP29, mayors are urging stronger multilevel partnerships and direct funding to help cities deliver faster, fairer climate action.

Cities are on the frontline of climate breakdown and inequality, and their involvement is critical to making real, people-focused progress.

At the U20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, 70+ mayors will meet to ensure that G20 leaders hear cities’ voices on vital climate issues. From U20 in Rio to COP29 in Baku, mayors will push for global cooperation to protect our planet and communities, making it clear that cities must play a central role.

Without cities as partners in decision-making, national climate goals will fall short. Ahead of COP30 in 2025, national leaders should use initiatives like CHAMP to put cities at the heart of climate plans for faster, fairer action that curbs emissions and limits global heating to 1.5°C.
