Khabonina Masango serves as an Engagement and Operations Manager at the C40 Cities Climate Finance Facility (CFF). In this role Khabonina supports projects within the Africa portfolio and backstopping support to teams where projects require. Khabonina is also a key support to expanding CFF’s internal and external communication strategy, and assisting in coordinating CFF events and activities across the three (Africa, LATAM and Asia) regions CFF has projects implemented.

Before joining C40, Khabonina worked at 350.org as the Fair Finance Coalition of Southern Africa (FFCSA) Coordinator where she led the coordination of the 7 projects implemented throughout the 2022 – 2023 period. In addition, she has worked on a research campaign focused on achieving SDG targets within cities of the Global South, particularly through the deployment of clean energy technology to create sustainable cities and communities. Khabonina has also worked on a renewable energy technology deployment project based in Limpopo, South Africa which assisted in alleviating urban energy poverty within a mining community. Khabonina also reached the Top 20 of the Open Africa Power (OAP) 2022/23 Fellowship focused on providing technical, regulatory and business skills to fellows to tackle Africa’s energy challenges. The fellowship was hosted by United Nations’ Sustainable Energy for ALL (SEforALL) and Enel Foundation.

Khabonina holds a Master’s of Urban Studies specialising in Sustainable Energy and Efficient Cities and a Bachelor of Arts Honours in International Relations from the University of Witwatersrand.
