北京 Beijing

Beijing has used market mechanisms to encourage carbon emission reductions and successfully reduce the overall cost of carbon emission controls. In 2013 Beijing established a pilot carbon market. As of 2020, in the seven years since the market opened, the transaction volume has exceeded 40 million tons of carbon and 1.7 billion yuan.

Against the backdrop of rapid social and economic development, Beijing has taken the lead in establishing a mechanism to coordinate the control of carbon emissions and carbon intensity. By 2019, Beijing’s carbon emission intensity had dropped 19.1% compared to 2015, air quality has continued to improve. Citizens can now see more blue sky and white clouds, as well as enjoy the health benefits and sense of happiness this brings.
