During the C40 Cities Mayors Summit this week the C40 Steering Committee drafted a Communiqué to highlight for participants of the Rio+20 UN Conference on Sustainable Development the increasingly important role cities play in adapting to and mitigating the impacts of climate change.
Last night, C40 Chair New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, joined by São Paulo Mayor Gilberto Kassab, officially closed out the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group Mayors Summit. The C40 Cities delegation joined he and Mayor Kassab on stage.
This afternoon featured a session on Adaptation & Vulnerability to climate change. Dr. Mir Mustafizur Rahman, Private Secretary to the Mayor of Dhaka, Mr. Sutanto Soehodho, Deputy Governor of the City of Jakarta, and Ms. Flora Mokgohloa, Executive Director Environmental Management of Johannesburg, participated as panellists, presenting their work to develop policies and adapt urban infrastructure in the face of increasing natural threats.
