C40 Cities is working with the City of Los Angeles, Uber, and WSP to help high-mileage drivers transition to EVs by helping them access thousands of dollars in incentives and additional earnings.
Los Angeles, California (July 16, 2026) — Los Angeles is preparing to welcome millions of visitors for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. While many visitors will use the city’s growing and clean public transit network, many will also use ride-hail services to get around during the Games. With the right support, drivers can switch to EVs ahead of the event. Offering clean, electric rides to visitors means lower running costs for drivers, smoother trips for riders, and cleaner air for the city.
At this year’s Super Bowl LX, Uber rides across San Francisco spiked significantly during the week of the game; we know that rides will rise during the Games too. With more opportunities for drivers to earn during big events, going electric can maximize income even more. EVs can typically save drivers between $6,000 and $10,000 over the life of the vehicle, alongside benefiting from generous incentive programs like the recently approved Drivers Assistance Program.
To support this shift, in collaboration with the City of Los Angeles, Uber, and WSP USA, C40 Cities is launching Plug Into LA, a campaign designed to support a target of 500 professional drivers across ride-hail, taxis, on-demand delivery, and light parcel delivery services in switching to electric vehicles ahead of the Games. The campaign will provide practical, driver-focused resources to help high-mileage drivers in LA better understand EV options, how to access thousands of dollars in incentives, and how they can save more by going electric. The campaign is supported by Uber and deployed independently by C40. It is open to drivers who operate on all ride-hail or delivery platforms.
Paul Krekorian, Executive Director of the City of Los Angeles Office of Major Events, said: “The 2028 Games present a unique opportunity to supercharge efforts to transform the transportation system in the city, which will benefit Angelenos well beyond the Games. With unprecedented incentives available, now is the time for drivers to go electric, save money, and help shape a cleaner legacy for LA.”
Marks Watts, Executive Director of C40 Cities, said: “As the host city for the 2028 Games, Los Angeles has an incredible opportunity to show residents and visitors alike how the city is transforming its transportation systems and providing options for safe, clean, and affordable ways to move through the city, whether that is via active and public transportation or ride-hail. We are delighted to support drivers with the information and resources they need to make a choice that will benefit them now, during the Games, and well beyond.”
Tessa Sanchez, Head of Sustainability Policy at Uber, said: “As the official rideshare and on-demand delivery partner of the LA 2028 Games, we are committed to helping residents, visitors, and goods move through the city in clean, electric vehicles. For drivers, there’s never been a better time to go electric, with more incentives and support available than ever. Our partnership with C40 allows us to support even more drivers to transition to EVs, both to keep up with public demand and help deliver cleaner air in the cities where we operate.”
The campaign is collaborating with community-based organizations to develop a centralized hub featuring accessible educational materials, community events, multilingual resources, and guidance on topics such as potential cost and comfort benefits of driving electric, public and home charging, vehicle range, maintenance, and incentive eligibility. The campaign will operate advisory services for drivers at convenient locations, such as near transit hubs, other common pick-up and drop-off points, and in neighborhoods where many drivers live. The hubs will introduce drivers to available local, state, utility, and platform-based programs and help them identify what incentives they will be eligible for and how to apply.
