With emissions reduction potential of 31,007 tonnes and over 300 electric vehicles put on roads, results underline the remarkable impact the programme is delivering on air quality and jobs, as well as unlocking further expansion of the EV freight sector

24 June 2026: Laneshift, launched in 2023 by C40 Cities and The Climate Pledge, has unveiled its first Impact Report, demonstrating the progress against its mission to accelerate the transition to zero-tailpipe-emission freight systems. The new report published today details how Laneshift initiatives have helped to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improved air quality, and boosted green jobs in transport in Brazil, Mexico, and India.

In addition, Laneshift’s efforts across India, Mexico, and Brazil have made electric freight vehicles more accessible and affordable for businesses while reducing long-term barriers to entry—setting these markets on a clear path to widespread zero-tailpipe-emission freight adoption.

In 2025 alone, Laneshift’s initiatives resulted in a reduction of 3,215 tonnes of CO2 emissions, with cumulative savings projected to reach 31,007 tonnes by 2035. Beyond carbon reduction, air quality improvements from the programme are expected to reduce health risks for communities living near transport hubs.

The programme is also catalysing further e-freight expansion. In 2025, Laneshift and chargepoint operators, such as EZVolt, installed 46 fast-charging bays across Mexico City and Rio de Janeiro, enabling the operation of 337 electric vehicles. This year, an additional charging hub opened in Curitiba, Brazil.

In India, 20 heavy-duty EV trucks completed a first-of-its-kind pilot using commercial loads, covering over 200,000 kilometers between Bengaluru and Chennai. The pilot generated real-world data on range, charging logistics, and total cost of ownership for electric freight.

Cassie Sutherland, Managing Director, Climate Solutions & Networks, C40 Cities, said: “Laneshift’s recent work has been transformative for zero-emission freight solutions across Latin America and India. Through strategic partnerships, innovative pilot projects, and targeted policy interventions, our report launched today details measurable reductions in greenhouse gas emissions and improved air quality, alongside positive steps to create new, green jobs in the EV sector.

We’ve supported deployment of over 300 vehicles, and the infrastructure we’ve partnered to roll out has already generated 1,151 years of employment —140% more years than created by diesel vehicles

By reducing emissions and creating economic opportunities, Laneshift is driving systemic change in urban freight systems. This report serves as a roadmap for stakeholders to scale sustainable freight solutions and build a cleaner, healthier future for cities worldwide.”

Sarah Dimson-Tararuj, Head of Strategic Projects & Programs, The Climate Pledge at Amazon, said: “The first Laneshift Impact Report proves what’s possible when cities, businesses, and climate organizations work together toward a common goal. In just two years, this initiative has moved from vision to measurable impact — putting over 300 zero-tailpipe-emission vehicles on the road, reducing CO2 emissions, creating new jobs, and building a growing network of charging infrastructure across Latin America and India. Through The Climate Pledge, we’re committed to continuing this momentum and helping to further unlock the transition to zero-tailpipe-emission freight at scale.”
