Year in Review: C40’s 90 Member Cities Celebrate a Year of Milestones in Climate Action

2016 was a monumental year for C40, our member cities and our mayors. Not only did the Paris Agreement enter into force less than one year after COP21, but we also saw the number of C40 member cities grow to 90, representing more than 650 million citizens, and our Steering Committee unanimously elected the first-ever woman C40 Chair, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo, to lead the organisation. Below, we look back at ten key moments that made 2016 a very productive and important year.

New Film Series Tells the Stories of Mayors Committed to Addressing Both Climate Change and Social Inequality

Around the world, mayors and local leaders are taking steps to tackle climate change whilst addressing issues of poverty and social inequality. Through a series of short films and an accompanying print publication – all made possible with generous support from the Citi Foundation – C40 is excited to feature six mayors who are delivering inclusive climate action in their cities.

Let us implement the Paris Agreement “Before the Flood”

Our cities are on the frontline of the climate change crisis. Rising sea levels threaten millions of citizens with flooding, while colder winters and hotter summers take their toll on the most vulnerable in our cities. The noxious emissions from vehicles passing through our city centres pollute the air that our children breathe.
