    Latin American cities have enormous potential to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions – C40 research indicates that together they could cut emissions by 2,500 MtCO2 by 2030, or the equivalent of taking 526 million cars off the road. Fortunately, many Latin American cities are already taking bold climate action, creating and implementing sustainable solutions to enhance the quality of life of urban citizens across the continent.     C40 helps kick off COP20’s Sustainable Innovation Forum

    Today C40 helped to kick off the Sustainable Innovation Forum 2014 (SIF14)  in Lima. Held in conjunction with COP 20, SIF14 brings together leaders from business, government, finance and non-governmental organizations to mobilize the green economy. C40 is an institutional partner to this year’s event, which is held annually by Climate Action in partnership with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

    Expert Voices: Roberto R. Luna, Metropolitan Municipality of Lima

    The C40 Cities of Lima and New York, recently conducted an exchange in the area of non-motorized transportation – getting people to walk or bike instead of taking taxis, cars or buses. The exchange was facilitated by C40 and represents a model for peer-to-peer learning that other C40 Cities can replicate. Its goal was to share best practices on the development and implementation of public bike share programs. New York’s Department of Transport (DOT) will soon launch its "Citi Bike" program, while Lima’s program is in the early stages of development.

    Local Adaptation to Climate Impacts: a Panel Discussion in C40 City Lima

    During the UNFCCC COP17 convention in Durban, South Africa, the US Embassy in Lima, Peru hosted an event entitled "Thinking Globally, Acting Locally,” which brought together climate experts on the ground in Durban with a gathering of national and municipal government officials and NGO representatives in Lima.
