    London must drive smart innovation and investment

    London’s population will increase by another 700,000 people by 2020 to more than nine million and electricity demand is still rising between 1-4 percent a year. We must invest in the capital’s infrastructure to deliver more secure, cheaper and greener energy. The Mayor knows that securing London’s energy future is as vital as the current neo-Victorian investment in the capital’s transport infrastructure and delivering the hundreds of thousands of homes to house our burgeoning population.

    Mayor Johnson engages “brightest young minds” in London’s green economy

    Today, Mayor Boris Johnson of London announced the Low Carbon Prize, a green energy competition that promises to tap some of the “brightest young minds” in the capital. Open to London’s students, the competition is designed to generate compelling and innovative ideas for slashing London’s carbon emissions, and offers cash prizes to the tune of £20,000 or a paid internship with Siemens, the award’s sponsor.

    Delegates from C40 cities London, Madrid and Stockholm presented their work on public building retrofits at the ninth annual ESCO Europe Conference in Copenhagen on January 23. C40 European Regional Director Cristiana Fragola moderated a panel titled "ESCO programs and procurement approaches in European cities," which generated an interactive discussion among a diverse audience of city officials, industry leaders and regulators.
