Rio is reducing climate risk

In 2027, Rio will publish its Climate Budget, aligning public spending with emissions reduction targets, climate risk management and the protection of vulnerable residents.
The city will advance its climate agenda by revitalising Avenida Chile, located within the city’s Low Emission District. Rio will also expand its electric bus fleet, with 175 new vehicles expected to begin operating in the second half of 2027, as part of its goal to have at least 20% of municipal buses running on electricity by 2030.
