Earlier this week, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) released the full findings of its latest report on climate change. This report is the fifth such assessment that focuses on the physical science basis of climate change; in 2014 two other IPCC working groups will release reports on the topics of climate change adaptation and mitigation, respectively.

This week, nearly fifty elected leaders of major cities and counties in the United States – including C40 Mayor Vincent Gray of Washington, DC – signed a pledge to protect their communities from extreme weather fueled by climate change.

C40 Cities' partner organization ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability has released a fact sheet compiling U.S. local government actions for 2012, specifically relating to climate change and extreme weather adaptation.

Today C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group and ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability have released a draft edition of the Global Protocol for Community-scale Greenhouse Gas Emissions (community protocol), commencing a one month period of public comment on the landmark effort, which harmonizes the emissions measurement and reporting process for cities of all sizes and geographies.
