上海 Shanghai

Changning District, Shanghai furthered its low-carbon path by implementing extensive energy-saving renovations of existing public buildings. In 2018, Changning District joined the “China Better Buildings Program” and became a pilot city for the C40 China Buildings Programme. In the past three years, Changning District has implemented China’s first publicly disclosed building energy efficiency benchmarking ranking. As of the end of 2020, it has completed the comprehensive renovation of existing public buildings with a building area of 1,198,800 square meters, achieving annual energy savings of 12,676 tons of standard coal.

The successful experiences of Changning District in improving the energy efficiency of existing public buildings provides an excellent demonstration case for achieving the goal of carbon emission peaking in high density urban areas by 2030.
