How can we build our future cities today, without costing the earth tomorrow?
Transforming Cities is a series produced for C40 by BBC StoryWorks that illustrates climate solutions through the experiences of residents in 25 cities.
Each film shows how residents and local organisations are improving neighbourhoods either through greener design, cleaner mobility, better resource use, and/ or practical adaptation efforts.
The series has been officially Albert Certified, the screen industry standard for sustainable production.
Local stories inspiring a global audience
We created Transforming Cities to put local voices at the centre of the climate conversation, showing how residents and communities are shaping more liveable cities from the ground up.
Climate action happens at every level, and everyone has a role to play. By sharing these stories across our global network, we hope to inspire others to find theirs.
The response showed a global appetite for these stories. Launched in 2022, the first series earned over 3.5 million video views, 3.7 million social engagements, and recognition at the 2023 WHO Health for All Film Festival.
Building on this success, a second series launched in 2025 with 17 new stories exploring how creativity, community, and climate innovation are reshaping city life. The series has reached over 3 million views on BBC.com.
