Mayor Khan will represent European Mayors in Network of Megacities
London, UK (25 July 2016) – London Mayor Sadiq Khan was elected to the role of Vice Chair on the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group (C40) Steering Committee today, the governing body that provides strategic direction for the C40 network of megacities committed to action on climate change.
Mayors serving as Vice Chairs on the Steering Committee represent the geographically diverse members of the global network and Mayor Khan will represent the Europe region alongside Copenhagen. London joins Amman, Boston, Copenhagen, Hong Kong, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Rio de Janeiro, Seoul and Tokyo.
“On behalf of all C40 members, it is my great pleasure to welcome Mayor Khan as our newest Steering Committee member,” said C40 Chair and Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Paes. “London was the founding city of C40 and has always been a vital member of the network. Mayor Khan’s strong commitment to action on climate change and bold ambitions for London will make him an invaluable leader within C40.”

As a Vice Chair, Mayor Khan will represent C40 in regional forums as well as on the global stage, where cities are taking on an increasingly important role in delivering ambitious action on global climate goals.
The next major convening of the C40 Steering Committee will take place at the C40 Mayors Summit, which will bring together mayors and sustainability leaders from all over the world. It will be held in Mexico City November 30 – December 2, 2016.
