The Journal of City Climate Policy and Economy is seeking innovative, thought-provoking, and informed original research and policy guidelines for an open-call issue due to be published in autumn 2026.

The Journal of City Climate Policy and Economy (JCCPE), published in partnership with the University of Toronto Press, is part of the work of the C40 Centre for City Climate Policy and Economy. It offers timely, evidence-based research that contributes to the urban climate agenda and supports transformational governmental policy towards an equitable and resilient world.

We welcome papers on any aspect of the urban climate agenda that supports governmental policy to achieve resilient, equitable cities. However, we are particularly interested in papers that address the research gaps identified in the latest Global Research and Action Agenda on Cities and Climate Change Science (GRAA)

The journal invites contributions from:

  1. Researchers and academics, and
  2. City practitioners (city officials and civil society organisations) from whom we welcome relevant case studies.

This is a unique opportunity to present research to the Journal’s key audience—mayors and city policymakers—and support their critical role in demonstrating that purposeful, mission-oriented policies and investments can lead to the necessary transformational change that science and society demand in order to address climate change.

We welcome pre-submission enquiries, so please feel free to contact the editorial team if you would like to discuss your idea to see if it might be suitable for the journal.

Abstracts should be no more than 250 words and show how your topic aligns with the aims of the Journal. In particular, it should show how your paper will benefit city mayors and decision makers. Please clarify in your email which manuscript type you would like to submit. If you are unsure which manuscript type is more appropriate, please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss.

Submissions

  1. Papers should be submitted to the Journal’s peer review system.
  2. For guidelines on manuscript types and how to format the manuscript, please reference the detailed author guidelines.
  3. Papers should be in English.

Submit your abstracts or expressions of interest by 13 February 2026 to slewis@c40.org.
