Recognising mayoral leadership in tackling the global climate crisis
The C40 Cities Bloomberg Philanthropies Awards recognise the best policies, projects or programmes led by mayors that are effectively addressing the climate crisis.
Building on the theme of this year’s C40 World Mayors Summit – United in Action – the five award categories showcase projects that demonstrate city leadership in the following areas:
- United in cleaning the air we breathe
- United in accelerating immediate action in critical sectors
- United in building climate resilience
- United in innovation
- United in building a climate movement
The winners were announced on 19 October 2022, during the opening reception of the C40 World Mayors Summit hosted by the City of Buenos Aires.
ABOUT THE AWARDS
Following a rigorous assessment of all finalist projects, the award winners were decided by a global panel of influential climate leaders, philanthropists and city decision-makers.
Ten awards were presented across five award categories, which recognise the very best city-led initiatives that improve air quality, accelerate climate action, enhance climate resilience, showcase innovative climate solutions, and demonstrate how to build a climate movement.
Twenty C40 cities were short-listed for the awards, providing case studies of city climate leadership in diverse global contexts that can be learned from and replicated to create safer, healthier and more resilient cities.
