“En el Medellín del Futuro que estamos construyendo, queremos rendir homenaje a las montañas que nos rodean, los espacios verdes que nos inspiran y la biodiversidad que la ciudad nos ofrece. Nuestro compromiso es de consolidarnos como una ciudad ecológica, ofreciendo a todas las formas de vida soluciones ambientales inteligentes basadas en la naturaleza, convencidos que una de las mejores formas de convivencia es el respeto por nuestros orígenes.
Por esta razón, estamos trabajando para aumentar los espacios verdes en nuestra ciudad, por medio de la inversión en la movilidad humana con la creación de la gran ciclo ruta de norte a sur, con infraestructura ecológica como el nuevo metro y líneas de metrocable que garantizan la movilidad inclusiva y diversa, y creando zonas de aire protegidas para mitigar los efectos del cambio climático con el compromiso colectivo de actuar decididamente, para la protección de nuestra biodiversidad y la dignidad de todos los seres vivientes que habitan en la ciudad con nosotros.
Nos estamos transformando en una ciudad sostenible por medio de estrategias de movilidad limpias, energías alternativas, reducción de desperdicios, la creación de corredores para la conectividad ambiental, y la protección y conservación de todas las formas de vida.
Al ser la primera ciudad de Latinoamérica en firmar el Plan de Acción Climático con C40 tenemos la posibilidad de guiar a Medellín en los siguientes 20 años en busca de una reducción de las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero del 37% por debajo de las prácticas ya establecidas para el año 2030 y convertir a Medellín en una ciudad libre de carbono para el año 2050.
Sabemos que no hay tiempo que perder para evitar reemplazar la pandemia actual con otra crisis. Nuestro objetivo es garantizar un mejor futuro para nuestros hijos y adolescentes en un país en donde haya oportunidades para todos. Es ahora o nunca, para hacer los cambios necesarios para transformar a Medellín en una ciudad ecológica.”

“In the future that we are building in Medellín, we want to pay tribute to the mountains that surround us, the green spaces that inspire us and the biodiversity it offers us. Our commitment is to consolidate ourselves as an eco-city, offering all forms of life intelligent environmental solutions based on nature, convinced that one of the best forms of coexistence is respect for our origins.
For this reason, we are working to increase green spaces in our city, investing in human mobility with the creation of the great north-south cycle route, with green infrastructure such as the new metro and metrocable lines that guarantee inclusive and diverse mobility, and creating protected air zones to mitigate the effects of climate change with the collective commitment to act decisively, for the protection of our biodiversity and the dignity of all living beings that inhabit the city.
We are becoming a sustainable city through clean mobility strategies, alternative energies, waste reduction, creation of corridors for environmental connectivity, protection and conservation of all forms of life.
Being the first city in Latin America to sign the Climate Action Plan with C40, we have the possibility of guiding Medellín in the next 20 years in search of a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 37% below business-as-usual by 2030, and make Medellín carbon neutral by 2050.
We know we have no time to waste or we will replace the current pandemic with another crisis. Our goal is to guarantee a better future for our children and adolescents in a country where they find opportunities for all. It’s now or never, to make the changes that are needed and make Medellín an eco-city.”
Nature breathes life into our cities. As part of a new campaign to highlight the importance of urban nature to our everyday lives, C40 has invited mayors, artists, cultural influencers and other thought leaders from cities around the world to write a ‘Letter to Nature’.
