In light of the evolving worldwide health emergency, the City of Sydney and C40 Cities have made the difficult decision to postpone the Sydney Climate Action Summit.

The decision to postpone the summit’s public and private events follows the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) a global pandemic.

The summit was due to take place in Sydney from 31 March to 2 April.

With support from international mayors, a coalition of mayors from metropolitan and regional Australia was due to meet with local businesses, community, industry, Indigenous leaders and school students to call for action to tackle the climate emergency.

The summit included a series of large-scale public events, including a CityTalk, the Mayors and Citizens Summit and the Sydney Climate Expo scheduled to take place at Sydney Town Hall. Invitation-only events included a Student Climate Summit and Business Summit.

Despite this decision, the City of Sydney and C40 Cities remain determined to continue to act on climate change. We will continue to work with mayors and local leaders to take urgent local action in a hostile climate.

New dates for the event will be announced in due course.
