Tibebu Assefa is C40’s East Africa Regional Air Quality Technical Adviser. He coordinates air quality project activities across C40 member cities in East Africa, part of the African Cities for Clean Air initiative (AC4CA). HeBefore collaborates with global C40 teams and stakeholders to advance ambitious air quality and climate actions.
Prior to this role, Tibebu served as C40’s City Advisor for Addis Ababa, where he led the development of the city’s Climate Action Plan, setting evidence-based emissions-reduction targets aligned with the 1.5°C Paris Agreement goal, and engaging stakeholders across government and civil society to integrate climate responses at the city level.
Before joining C40, he worked as a Climate Change Expert for Echnoserve Consulting Company, an environmental consultancy in Ethiopia, where he managed projects across waste management, urban energy, transport, and urban agriculture. Earlier in his career, he worked at World Vision Ethiopia as a Social and Development Facilitator, coordinating cross-sectoral projects in education, health, agriculture, and natural resource management at the local level.
Tibebu holds an MA in Geography and Environmental Studies from Addis Ababa University, an MA in Economics from Indira Gandhi National Open University, and a BSc in Agricultural Extension from Haramaya University. He is an art and nature enthusiast, and in his spare time he enjoys reading and spending time with family and friends.
