Addis Ababa prepares for its first Bus Rapid Transit system

    April 12, 2017

C40 recently partnered with the Addis Ababa Road and Transport Bureau to deliver a two-day workshop to measure the greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction benefits for Addis Ababa’s first Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system. A total of 18 representatives from the Addis Ababa Road and Transport Bureau, Transport Authority, Institute of Technology and the Environmental Protection Authority learned how to use available data and make assumptions to demonstrate the impact of BRT’s forecasted operations, construction and manufacturing on emissions.

From Paris To Quito, Mayors Are Leading On Our Sustainable Future

    October 14, 2016

In 2015, cities played a central role at COP21 in Paris, pushing national leaders to reach the ambitious Paris Climate Agreement. The New Urban Agenda, to be adopted at the Habitat III Conference in Quito next week, will join the Paris Agreement, the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda and other recent international agreements as part of a global framework for sustainability. After many rounds of negotiations, urban governance and the role of local governments have been recognized in its final draft. This is a success for the collective advocacy of the Global Taskforce of Local and Regional Governments – a platform of city networks of which C40 is a member. It is also a sign of the tremendous commitment from mayors to create equitable, prosperous, low-carbon and resilient cities.

Curitiba: A Leader in Transport Innovation

    July 30, 2015

The City of London recently hosted the first-ever Clean Bus Summit, which brought together city transport officials, manufacturers and other stakeholders to help chart a path for deploying clean buses in cities around the world. The Summit came on the heels of the C40 Clean Bus Declaration, a commitment by 24 cities (and counting!) announced at the C40 Latin American Mayors Forum earlier this year, which seeks to deploy 40,000 clean buses in C40 cities around the world by 2020.

C40 Clean Bus Declaration urges cities and manufacturers to adopt innovative clean bus technologies

    May 20, 2015

The C40 Clean Bus Declaration of Intent was officially announced during the C40 Latin American Mayors Forum in Buenos Aires in March 2015. The Declaration is an unprecedented action by cities; not only does it document the growing interest in adopting clean bus technologies, it also provides data that illustrates the global market potential for manufacturers. The ultimate goal is to incentivize and help manufacturers and other stakeholders, such as multilateral banks, develop strategies to make these technologies more affordable for cities. The hope is that the Declaration will be a significant step in this direction.
