The C40 Blog serves as the paper of record for C40 and provides a
platform for sharing important, diverse perspectives on current
issues from C40 Mayors, field staff, partners and international
COP23 came to a successful conclusion on November 18th in Bonn. While nations were there to negotiate under the inspiring Fijian Presidency, C40 was present with a strong delegation to showcase the ambition of our cities, inspire ambitious commitments, build fruitful partnerships and announce the great strides that C40 cities are making to deliver the objectives of the Paris Agreement.
Today 15 of the world’s great cities launched an unprecedented global competition to drive carbon neutral and resilient urban regeneration. C40’s Reinventing Cities initiative has already identified 46 underutilized spaces to redevelop, including several empty plots and abandoned buildings, a former airport, historical mansions, underused car parks, and an abandoned incinerator and landfill.
For this week’s Awards spotlight, we’re focusing on the #Cities4ZeroWaste finalists that are transitioning our cities away from the landfil, and toward a greener way of processing (even repurposing!) urban waste.
Cities around the world are developing innovative projects to improve mobility. These projects are making cities more environmentally-friendly, more inclusive, and more people-centric, while addressing the twin challenges of growing urbanisation and intensifying climate change.
