The C40 Blog serves as the paper of record for C40 and provides a
platform for sharing important, diverse perspectives on current
issues from C40 Mayors, field staff, partners and international
20 megacities including Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Johannesburg, Bogotá, Sao Paulo and Jakarta will benefit from a new global industry commitment developed in partnership with ICCT, UN Environment, C40 Cities, and CCAC.
Recent events from the immense damage that hurricanes Maria, Harvey and Irma have wreaked on Puerto Rico, Houston, Miami and the Caribbean, or the monsoon floods that have forced millions from their homes in India and Bangladesh, illustrate that climate change does not respect whether we are ready or not. Our planet’s climate has changed and its impact will be felt by every one of us and for generations to come.
Air pollution, much of it the by-product of emissions from vehicles, causes more than 4.2m premature deaths each year. The same emissions that poison our air are also causing climate change. C40’s research has shown that the world’s largest cities need to peak emissions by 2020, with a big focus on their transport sectors, if there is any hope of delivering on the Paris Agreement and preventing catastrophic climate change.
