Collaboration in Action: Mayors and city leaders gather in Singapore to discuss innovative urban solutions

Yesterday, C40 and the Singapore National Climate Change Secretariat (NCCS) held an event at the World Cities Summit (WCS) 2016, a global platform for government leaders and industry experts to address liveable and sustainable city challenges and forge new partnerships. “From Ambition to Action: The Vital Role of Cities in Achieving the Paris Agreement” drew together C40 mayors and city experts from around the world to share insights on the actions they are taking – on mitigation, adaptation and increasing resilience – as well as the key challenges they face in doing so.

Call for C40 cities to apply to the City Solutions Platform – a newly launched project that facilitates city-private sector engagement

Many of the challenges cities currently face can be overcome through collaboration and cooperation with other actors. This is the mantra of the new City Solutions Platform (CSP), a joint effort by C40, the Danish cleantech cluster CLEAN, and the International Cleantech Network (ICN) to support early engagement between cities and the private sector to accelerate the deployment of innovative climate solutions. The CSP will run for a period of 2 years (up to December 2017) and is made possible by the generous support of Realdania and industry partners DanfossHitatchi, and RTI.

New C40 project to measure cities’ green economic success

For a number of years, a group of C40 cities active in the Green Growth Network have been working to understand the size and nature of their green economies. This information - including economic value, number of jobs, number of companies, specialist sectors, exports, and green growth potential - is crucial to help cities identify where the most effective interventions can be made and help make the case for further sustainable policies that help grow the green economy.

Cities and Businesses Crowdsource Solutions to Renewable Energy Challenges

What type of renewable fuel will emerge as the low carbon solution for commercial transportation? How do you make the case for renewable energy in light of inexpensive natural gas? How does a neighborhood business association structure a community solar project? These were some of the questions being considered by over a hundred experts and leaders at the Renewable Energy Challenge during the GLOBE Conference and Innovation Expo this March. With over 10,000 investors, buyers, policy makers and leaders from around the world meeting to shape future markets, test policy approaches, strike deals and collaborate, the conference held in Vancouver, Canada, presented a pivotal opportunity for the world to take real, tangible action on climate change following the United Nations Conference on Climate Change.

Call for Expression of Interest: A Shared Approach to Measuring the Size and Nature of the Environmental Goods and Services Sector in C40 Cities

C40 has a reputation for delivering cutting-edge research that supports its network of cities to take climate action. One of our well-developed networks, the Green Growth Network, is working to share best practices and lessons learned on the drivers of the green economy and economic growth in cities, which could help make the case for climate action.
