Around the world, mayors and local leaders are taking steps to tackle climate change whilst addressing issues of poverty and social inequality. Through a series of short films and an accompanying print publication – all made possible with generous support from the Citi Foundation – C40 is excited to feature six mayors who are delivering inclusive climate action in their cities.  

The City of Athens recently completed Phase 2 on the road to becoming compliant with the Compact of Mayors by developing a greenhouse gas emissions inventory. The inventory is changing the way Athens measures and manages their emissions data, says Mayor Georgios Kaminis.

COP21 was a huge success, and city leaders left Paris with a renewed sense of purpose – but now the real work begins.

The Paris Agreement can only be brought to life with full support from all those involved, including national, regional and local leaders. The 1.5°C target means that cities and city leaders are more crucial than ever to the global fight against climate change; this goal cannot be achieved without effective climate action in cities.

Through a series of fantastic events at Paris City Hall, Le Bourget and other iconic locations around the city, mayors from around the world gathered to celebrate successful projects and plans, share their stories and knowledge, voice their ideas, and establish opportunities for action over the next 5 years and beyond.
