Equipping cities with evidence and practical guidance

C40 provides three complementary offerings, publicly available to everyone, to support cities’ climate action:

Frequently asked questions

Who can access C40’s research and resources?

All content is freely accessible to anyone, regardless of C40 membership. City practitioners, policymakers, researchers, advocates, and residents can access implementation guides, research reports, and most C40 Centre publications without registration.

How do I find resources relevant to my city’s context?

The Knowledge Hub organises content by topic (transport, buildings, waste, etc.). While some resources are city- or region-specific, most content is globally applicable and includes advice for cities with different levels of power, capacity and experience. Good practice examples are offered throughout our implementation guides and other resources, as well as in dedicated case studies, to help you find examples from similar contexts.

What’s the difference between Research, the Knowledge Hub, and the C40 Centre?

Research produces original quantitative studies demonstrating what works. The Knowledge Hub captures existing research, expert insight, and experience from cities to produce practical, accessible guidance about what climate actions to prioritise and how to deliver them. The Knowledge Hub also hosts all publicly available C40 research, as well as curated resources from third parties. The C40 Centre develops links between the academic world and practitioners, particularly in progressive economic thinking, narrative and disinformation, and public health and climate. All three inform each other.

How often is new content published?

Research reports are published throughout the year as studies are completed. The Knowledge Hub adds new resources every month, captured in a monthly newsletter. The C40 Centre publishes the journal quarterly and releases two podcast seasons per year.
